Evolution of the subgenus Rohrbachia (Kronf. ex Riedl) A. Krasnova of the hydrophilic genus Typha L.

Krasnova A.N.
Abstract

The subgenus Rohrbachia was apparently formed in the Upper Cretaceous in the Indo-Malaysian province, as a result of the convergence with mangrove, undersized populations of the Pandanaceae family (Pandanus minor). The section Minimae was formed in the Paleogene while the Central Asian section Turanicae was formed in the Neogene. In the Upper Pleistocene, because of the isolation and desertification of the Khankhay Sea, the Mongolian-Gobi populations due to rapid geological and climatic changes were subjected to a sharp reduction and formed the section Mongolica. As a result of the study of the herbarium materials of T. minima Funck at the Kholodhy Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (KW), Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (LE), a new species, Typha ephemeroida A. Krasnova, has been described.
